Yale: a distinguished family one of whom (Elihu) helped establish the University in New Haven, Connecticut. His tomb is in Wrexham churchyard.

Young, David (Dai, b. l967): from Aberdare, played rugby league at Salford, with l4 international appearances; then union at Cardiff, with 51 caps.

Yorath, Terry (b. l950): footballer at Leeds, Coventry, and Spurs, managed Swansea in l986. Won 59 caps for Wales, appointed manager in l99l

Yorke, Philip (l743-l804): from Erddig, Wrexham, antiquary who wrote Royal Tribes of Wales (l799): his descendant Philip was the last owner of Erddig.

Zito, Jayne (b. l964): from Rhondda, Jayne married Jonathan Zito who was stabbed to death in Dec, l992 by a man with a history of violence and psychiatric problems. Jayne set up the Zito Trust to campaign for better support and treatment of the mentially ill. In 200l, she was awarded the OBE for her outstanding work.
